Rules and Entry Information
The dance competition will be governed by the rules and regulations of the RSOBHD and ScotDance USA.
Each dancer must present a valid ScotDance registration card at check in to receive their competitor number. Pre-premier cards will be collected and returned after awards.
Each dancer must be a member of SHDA to compete.
Registration must be submitted in advance, no field entries. The deadline to enter is Sunday, October 12, 2025; regular price admission will close at 11:59pm. Any entries received after this date must pay double entry fees and may not be included in the program.
Competition age groups will be decided at the close of entries. Age is determined as of day of competition. Dancers will compete in inverse order of entry – first to enter will be last to dance.
Competition information, including platform schedules, will be distributed via email the Wednesday before the competition and posted online at www.SeattleHighland.org.
Dancers must appear when their group is called or forfeit their chance to dance in that event. Dancers will be asked to fill-in for reels based on date of entry, the last to enter will be asked first to fill-in as needed.
Female, Male, Family, and Private Change areas will be clearly marked. Dancers will be given plenty of time for costume changes. Dancers must remain in costume to receive awards.
Medals will be awarded in all groups except Premier dancers 16 years and older will receive cash prizes instead of medals. Aggregate Trophies will be awarded in all groups except Primary. Perpetual Trophies and Keeper Plaques will be awarded as specified in the program. We require an adult signature before Perpetual Trophies can be taken from the premises.
The decision of the adjudicator is final.
Any protest must be submitted in writing to the competition organizer, properly signed and accompanied by a fee of $25. It must be made immediately following the competition. If the protest is sustained the fee will be returned.
Three month rule: Judges who conduct teaching or coaching classes, seminars or any other forms of tuition (eg by video conferencing), may not adjudicate any competitor who has attended any of these classes for a period of three months after the last class, workshop or any other form of tuition that the competitor has attended. It is the responsibility of the dancer to check on judges prior to the competition.
Membership Guidelines and Instructions
All dancers must have SHDA Membership paid in full before they will be allowed to dance at any SHDA sponsored competition. Memberships can be purchased with the dancer registration.
Membership Guidelines: A Parent/Guardian applies as the member if the dancer is under 18. The Dancer will apply as a member if 18 years of age or older and does not live with the Parent/Guardian. A family membership includes those residing in the same household, including college students. A single point of contact represents the “family” and will be contacted for all updates relevant to their membership.
Membership Fees: Membership fees are paid annually for the dance year. Members may join at any time during the dance year. The annual fee is $50 for all individuals/families. Dancers competing with SHDA for the first time at the Spring Competition will be entitled to a discounted membership fee.
SHDA is a self-supporting organization, operations are funded almost entirely through our membership and dance registration fees. Please be sure to pay the correct amount. If you are not sure how much to pay, please contact an SHDA Board member at info@seattlehighland.org.
Member-only registration forms can be found below for non-competing individuals who would like to join the association.
Volunteering
Volunteer Guidelines: SHDA is an all-volunteer organization and would appreciate each member volunteering at least once during the season. If you have any questions about a volunteer role, please ask Deedee Miller, our volunteer coordinator, or any of our SHDA board members.
Sign Up: Volunteers can sign up for a shift on our Sign Up Genius https://www.signupgenius.com/go/10C0A44A8A928A4F9CE9-58646497-shda
